Organic Vitamins and Minerals

Here’s where the rubber meets the road in the supplement industry. What I’m about to share with you, nearly all supplement manufacturers do NOT want you to know…What is it? More than 99% of all vitamins and minerals that you are consuming in supplements are man-made, synthetic, NOT REAL, and are cheap, cheap, cheap!

Scientists will tell you that your body cannot tell the difference between a real vitamin, derived from real foods and a synthetic vitamin made in a lab. This is absolutely not true and the reason is that when you consume vitamins from real foods, there are multiple co-factors that work in synergy with the vitamin to enhance absorption and thus effectiveness. That is not the case with an isolated, synthetic, man-made vitamin.

In addition, the absorption rate of most synthetic vitamins is only 9%. Yes, that right, 9%! Which means that NINETY-ONE PERCENT of what you are paying for in a vitamin supplement is being washed down the drain whether it’s a liquid, capsule, tablet or powder.

An interesting fact: most supplements are made using stearates that are hydrogenated fats such as magnesium stearate, stearic acid and calcium stearate. They are made by hydrogenating cottonseed or palm oil as lubricants; added to the raw materials so that production machinery will run at maximum speeds. These substances decrease the absorption of nutrients. Those with impaired digestion (most of us) may have particular difficulty absorbing nutrients coated with stearates.

Also, most fruit and vegetable concentrates used in dietary supplements are dried with very high heat, destroying their nutritional value and subsequently their effectiveness. While they don’t supply much nutrient [value], they are included in the supplement to make it appear natural, while all the nutrients listed on the label come from synthetic or other unnatural additions. These so-called “whole food” supplements containing fruit or vegetable concentrates have to be “spiked” with synthetic vitamins and other unnatural nutrients in order to list any appreciable amounts of vitamins and/or minerals.

For example, almost all of the vitamin C in supplements is made in a laboratory, despite labeling that implies otherwise. The label might say, “ascorbic acid from sago palm.” Dextrose, a form of sugar that contains no vitamin C at all, is extracted from sago palm and used as the base molecular material for a complex laboratory process that synthesizes vitamin C. Or the label might say “vitamin C derived from the finest natural sources.” True, but the vitamin C was synthesized. It might also say “with rose hips and acerola,” which are then used as the base material for the tablet or capsule. But a tablet of rose hips or acerola can contain only about forty milligrams of truly natural vitamin C; the rest is synthesized.

Labels also often proclaim “natural” B vitamins” derived from yeast. But companies manufacturing yeast add laboratory-synthesized B vitamins to the food fed to the yeast during its growth, and then fortify the yeast further with additional B vitamins once it has grown. This allows the production of yeast of any B-vitamin potency desired, which is then used to formulate vitamin pills labeled “B vitamins derived from yeast.” (Quick tip: if it says only folic acid, not folate, it’s most likely not true B9!).

Another misrepresentation is being able to claim “manufactured in the U.S.A” even if they are using synthetic vitamins or ingredients from other countries, including China. This means that although they are sourcing ingredients from contaminated and non-organic sources, as long as they are all put together in the U.S., they can claim the above and not reveal their sourcing. This happens a LOT!

So hardworking families are being duped into buying knockoffs. That’s selfish and wrong but not actually harmful, right?

Wrong. According to Dr. Campbell McBride, the body “has been designed to use natural forms of these nutrients and often does not recognize the synthetic forms and does not know what to do with them. There is a growing suspicion that a lot of cases of kidney stones, for example, are caused by supplementing synthetic forms of vitamin C, which would represent most vitamin C supplements available in shops.” (Gut & Psychology Syndrome p. 296).

Dr. Maffetone agrees, saying that “A study on vitamin C (Am J Clin Nutr; Jan 2008) showed adults taking the synthetic version had serious side effects. Doses of 1,000 mg of vitamin C a day impaired their energy systems (significantly hampering their endurance capacity), specifically by weakening the mitochondria of the cell (which burns fat and sugar). It also had significant adverse effects on the antioxidant system (a key immune regulator). Those who take vitamin C often take this amount or more, and it’s almost always synthetic. Children may be even more vulnerable.”

Too Much Can Actually Cause Deficiencies! – many nutrients compete for absorption sites in the gut. So, if we supplement too many of particular vitamins, calcium, for example, it may impair absorption of other nutrients: magnesium, zinc, copper, iron, some amino acids and others, creating deficiencies in those nutrients. A supplement should be just that: supplementation of nutrition ADDED to a healthy diet to ensure you are getting the daily amounts of vitamins, minerals and nutrients needed; not an excessive amount.

After putting together my own supplement from scratch, here’s what I’ve learned:

It takes hundreds of hours of research before you can even start to formulate a product like Supplify®. I have over 25 years of experience in the health and supplement field and I’ve done ALL the research on this supplement personally. There most likely isn’t a company in existence that does that – most outsource to other companies for an existing base formula and then tweak it here and there so they can call it proprietary without really knowing everything that’s in it or where it comes from! I had several vitamin manufacturers actually tell me that! Note: if you see this word being used: proprietary, be cautious. It generally means the company is hiding something and isn’t being totally transparent, and it may mean you don’t really know what you’re consuming.

And, if you are using a liquid supplement, in addition to being mostly water, nearly all of them, by FDA regulations, contain synthetic and known carcinogenic preservatives such as: sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate.

So how do you actually get enough vitamins and minerals into a supplement?

Well, first, according to two supplement manufacturers in the United States that I’ve spoken with, they said it is impossible to extract vitamins and minerals from organic produce because it would deplete the fruits and vegetables from existence! While that’s a slight exaggeration, what he really means is that the process is so expensive, it would cut into the profit margins of the supplement companies and therefore they buy cheap synthetics primarily from China which, although China may claim to grow organic produce, it is so polluted that the raw materials are contaminated! Yuck!  Additionally, to keep costs at a bare minimum and because they have so many middle men, employees, and additional expenses, it behooves the companies to keep their raw material costs to a minimum. Therefore, the majority of supplements that cost the consumer $50, $60, $70 or more actually contain about FIVE DOLLARS or LESS of ingredients!

I wanted to formulate the best supplement on the market regardless of what it cost me to make. While Supplify’s ingredients are rather pricey, I don’t have the extra overhead that so many mega-companies do, so I can still offer the best product at competitive pricing.

So where do the vitamins and minerals in Supplify® come from and what makes them so different?

The vitamins and minerals in Supplify® are extracted from organic mineral-rich soils in Canada using a patented technology that liquefies and mixes all raw materials in a special chamber where the bio-activation process occurs, allowing enzymes, probiotics and prebiotics to help culture the ingredients. Then gentle agitation and low heat is used under high vacuum to extract moisture, preserve the active ingredients, shorten drying times, and protect sensitive phytonutrients. The processing temperature always stays below 118°F (48°C).

Phytonutrients (also referred to as phytochemicals) are natural compounds found in plant-based whole foods that give plants their rich pigment, as well as their distinctive taste and smell. Research suggests that nutrients from whole, raw food may have a valuable holistic effect that allows key vitamins and minerals to work more effectively. The method used retains and intensifies the total goodness of whole food into rich living food.

How do you ensure that the plants are safe, pure, and organic?

All the raw materials are lab-tested based on ISURA product certification standards for the natural health supplement and food industries. Mass spectrometry and other test methods are used to ensure that the plant material is non-GMO, organically grown and free of solvents, pesticides, and other contaminants. In addition, Supplify® product lots are tested frequently to ensure their purity.

ISURA is a product certification organization, independent from SomaHealth, Inc., for the natural health supplement and food industries, primarily serving as an analytical competence center for analyzing natural health products and technical materials at all stages of processing. ISURA offers a broad range of analytical methods such as mass spectrometry to ensure purity and potency of natural products. Some of the product certification services include:

  • Non-GMO and organically grown
  • Product potency and integrity
  • Pesticide-free and solvent-free
  • Free of heavy metals

The vitamins and mineral in Supplify are originally made using nutrient-rich ingredients from plants grown on 100% non-GMO organic farms, harvested at their peak, and immediately raw processed at facilities using a specialized process to retain the vital bioenergetic vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytonutrients, and antioxidants.

It begins with the Healthiest and Purest Raw Materials – from a simple seed, planted in the ground with a little water, nutrients from the soil, and a whole lot of energy from the sun, comes the wholesome nutrition that sustains our lives. The sourcing farms are certified 100% organic and pesticide-free. Crops are fertilized only with compost and nitrogen-rich sea plants and are meticulously cared for by hand. The plants are then harvested at their peak and immediately raw processed at exclusive facilities.

Maintaining Quality is a Gentle Process – Traditional methods of food preservation can destroy a plant’s natural nutrients and diminish the plant’s health benefits. Processing can expose sensitive raw materials to unnatural levels of heat, light and oxygen, which can reduce nutrient content. By contrast, a unique method is used that protects delicate fruits, vegetables and herbs from damage that can occur with other processing techniques. The watchword here is “gentle.”

Preserving the Life Force of Whole Food – the process is free of solvents and ethanol for safer whole food concentrates. The whole plant or fruit, including the peel, stem, and seeds, is used – all rich sources of antioxidants. Batch-by-batch processing ensures that all the ingredients are thoroughly dispersed. As a  result, the concentrated nutrients are suitable for stand-alone supplements and as components in Supplify’s health-promoting formula. Most of the vitamins and minerals in Supplify utilize activated  forms of vitamins to ensure that meaningful levels of key nutrients are delivered in the bioactive whole food formula.

How does Supplify® compare to other whole-food supplements? – Several companies market versions of what they refer to as “whole-food” vitamins. Most of the nutrients in supplements marketed as whole-food are produced by mixing (USP) vitamins and minerals with Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker’s yeast), sugar or molasses in a big tank. After some amount of time has passed (usually 12 – 24 hours), the yeast is harvested and the material is dried off. By contrast, the vitamins/minerals in Supplify use a unique technology to infuse each supplement with the concentrated goodness of raw nutrition.

Supplify® incorporates the best raw materials: high-potency foods packed with essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals and hundreds of antioxidants, enzymes and phytonutrients. Most of these nutrient-dense plants are grown on specialized Canadian farms where they been harvesting 100% organic crops from non-GMO seeds for almost a quarter century. It takes strong roots to flourish. These farms are certified 100% organic and non-GMO. The crops are fertilized with compost and nitrogen-rich sea plants, and are meticulously cared for by hand. No synthetic pesticides (or even permissible organic pesticides) are used – EVER!

Whole Plants, Gently Harvested by Hand – the whole plants are harvested fresh by hand at their peak and immediately raw processed using a specialized technique to retain the vital bioenergetic vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytonutrients and antioxidants. It’s labeled enzymatically-rich living food which makes all the difference!

Supplify®’s vitamin/mineral mix is a powerful combination of organic active vegetables, organic cruciferous vegetables, organic fruits, organic herbals, and organic sea vegetables. The process starts with these fresh, raw, nutrient-dense plants to yield a concentrated biomass of bioenergetic vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytonutrients – processed to retain the total goodness of whole food into rich living food.

Lastly, the standards used in producing these amazing nutrients meet or surpass the Canadian Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) established by the Natural and Non-Prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) of the Canadian Federal Government, and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations. They also meet or exceed other international standards including the US Federal Drug Administration (FDA), the US Pharmacopeia Convention (USP), the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare (MHW), and the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

The commitment to quality is reflected in their investment in expanding in-house Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Research & Development departments, allowing them to verify the purity, potency, and efficacy of each and every product. They have advanced analytical technology and equipment, including HPLC and Mass Spectrometry, and can test for over 400 contaminants down to the molecular level. They also adhere strictly to good laboratory practices (GLP), and the products are ISURA certified. This third party certification tests for non-GMO, contaminants, and identity.

The manufacturers of the vitamins and minerals work closely with their Scientific Advisory Board to ensure that their products live up to their claims; which focuses on the clinical application of the products, as well as nutritional interventions and strategies for preventive medicine.

I don’t think you’ll find anything better; guaranteed!
