Lyme Disease: Beyond Antibiotics
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by a spirochete called Borrelia burgdorferi.
Contrary to mainstream thinking, Lyme disease and its co-infections can be spread, not just by tick, but by just about any biting insect. It can even be spread by non-vector means (person-to-person). If one family member has Lyme, it’s likely other family members are infected as well, even though they may not yet be manifesting symptoms. Experts agree that Lyme disease is epidemic in this country with as many as 20-30 million people infected, and the numbers are growing.
Lyme is called “the great mimicker” because it can mimic a host of different diseases. Therefore it is often misdiagnosed or missed completely.
Lyme disease can actually manifest itself in any number or combination of over 350 symptoms! Typically, it can start out as flu-like symptoms and then progress to neurological, cardiac or joint abnormalities in a matter of weeks to months; the spirochetes paralyze multiple aspects of the immune system; the person is then without defenses against many microbes which can cause secondary infections.
Modern medicine often treats this with antibiotic therapy, typically doxycycline (Vibramycin), amoxicillin and/or cefuroxime axetil. The standard therapy of 4-6 weeks of antibiotic treatment is not sufficient to treat chronic Lyme disease; is often very expensive, and, in addition to numerous side effects, antibiotics destroy beneficial bacteria in the intestinal tract leading to a host of digestion and absorption difficulties. Chronic Lyme disease is often a life-long illness, but usually can be controlled, with many people eliminating their symptoms, if done correctly.
A natural method, which can be safely used, and has been widely hailed by Lyme sufferers and health care providers alike, is Teasel Root.
Teasel Root has been used in protocols to treat Lyme due to its ability to pull bacteria from hard-to-reach tissues and into the blood stream so that it can be destroyed by our built up immune systems and eliminated by the body. Matthew Woods in his book, “The Book of Herbal Wisdom” writes, “After entering the body, the spirochetes burrow into the muscles where they settle down to live. Here they produce chronic inflammation and pain, with destruction of muscles and joints. People become like the broken-down ‘tertiary syphilitics’ described in old medical text books”.
When combined with other natural products, such as Colloidal Silver, Oil of Oregano and intraMAX, Teasel Root becomes a serious weapon in the arsenal to combat Lyme.
